Book now

Clarity’s ‘Introduction to Lean & Visual Management’ workshop offers a secure grounding in these tried-and-tested techniques.  Originating in Japan, Lean is a strategy for minimalism in business which translates to increased productivity and reduced waste of time and resources.

On this workshop you’ll learn more about how Lean began, and how it has evolved into a 21st century philosophy that can be adapted to almost any business sector.  Discover sources of waste within your business, and shine a light on the obstacles that are preventing it from achieving full potential.  Identify ways you can add value to your process flows while increasing satisfaction among both customers and staff.

This foundation level course will introduce the basic principles of Lean, including how to identify the ‘8 Wastes’ and the benefit of finding ‘2 Second Improvements’ every day, as well as an overview of visual management and its benefits for your Lean programme.  You’ll learn how to:

  • Understand the benefits of visual communication, including the importance of ‘Lead’ and ‘Lag’ measures, and the ‘1-3-10 rule’
  • Understand how a tiered meeting structure works and why it is required.
  • Identify a communication strategy and tiered meeting structure
  • Create a design brief for daily/weekly meeting performance boards for management & departmental teams
  • Coach the teams in the correct use of visual management to increase employee engagement and create a cadence of accountability
  • Develop appropriate KPIs for tracking progress
  • Display information to maximise focus, productivity and accountability
  • 1 x bespoke designed (with your team as part of the workshop activity) KPI Performance Board Overlay with whiteboard (1800x1200mm)
  • Accessories including magnetic status indicators and document holders
  • 1 x 8 Wastes poster overlay with whiteboard (small)
  • 1 x 8 Wastes board overlay with whiteboard (medium)
  • Complimentary Clarity Slide Pack Handouts

As well as a thorough understanding of general Lean philosophy, your team will leave this workshop with a Visual Management board they can use on a daily basis in team meetings to help better understand their performance and create countermeasures where they are required. To ensure this is successful we would recommend that all key stakeholders involved in the meeting where the board will be used are included in the workshop.

What is Visual Management

Visual management tends to fall within 6 key purposes…

The work Clarity has done for our site has revolutionised the way we operate our lines; staff are actually communicating with one another and we’re all using the data and hard facts shown in the KPI boards to make decisions.

Paul Mann - Hub Operations Manager, DPD

Working with Clarity as a partnership really works for me; you’re open to different challenges and the team that I work with have been really responsive, they’ve also come up with some ideas which I’d not thought of. I see myself as an expert in visual management but you guys have still managed to teach me some things.

Craig Wilkinson – Network Rail

Thanks to Clarity, we follow all our KPI’s through visual management. Alongside the manufacturing successes we’re seeing with Clarity’s visual management, we’ve also seen a 30% reduction in our general waste and are saving £40,000 a year on one part of our waste management visual solutions through standardising our processes.

Steve Lomax – Crown Paints

Clarity’s solutions have played an important part in our visualisation success in Network Rail’s LNE, and are essential to the programme. Clarity supported us to reduce our Operations and Maintenance expenditure from £180,000,000 to £166,000,000. That’s a £14,000,000 saving! We also saw a 20% reduction on workforce and irregular working accidents and general performance across operators on the East Coast Mainline has improved.
