BFLEX: A Product Review
When researching the right barrier for your warehouse, you will find thousands of options available. Your search for the right solution has led you here; Clarity BFLEX.
Now you want to learn more.
Clarity BFLEX is a is a flexible polymer barrier distributed by us, Clarity. We have been solving complex pedestrian segregation challenges for over a decade. We supply a range of pedestrian safety products. BFLEX is one of them is one of them.
In this article, we are going to help you understand BFLEX. By the end of the article, you’ll understand BFLEX’s characteristics. You will also understand the advantages and disadvantages of BFLEX.
The article will give you a better idea of whether BFLEX is the flexible barrier for you.
What is BFLEX?
BFLEX is a unique hybrid flexible segregation barrier for warehouses and factories designed for protecting against heavy forklift trucks.
BFLEX is available in as a single or double height and available in two formats, that is BLFEX/COM and BFLEX/ FRONT.
Both BFLEX formats consist of a double profile which is highly resistant to impact and shocks. This profile is similar to the steel 'Armco' style profile except flexible and impact resistant.
BFLEX can be used internally and externally to protect against FLTs, cars and even HGVs.
What are the advantages of BFLEX?
1. Economical use of space
BFLEX offers the slimmest profile and is idea for factories where space is very tight. Even when allowing for an industry standard deflection zone of 150mm, the total footprint required for BFLEX is just 240mm, this is because the barriers have a profile of just 80mm
2. Low Cost
With minimal components, BFLEX can be a cost effective solution for factories with FLTs up to 10 ton. BFLEX is a great alternative to Armco style barriers.
3. Wider safety zone
BFLEX has a 'catchment' area of 300mm, almost double that of traditional pedestrian safety barriers meaning that the risk of forks and pallets passing through is greatly minimised.
4. Modular design
BLEX can be extended, shortened, add corners in etc without a huge increase in cost. BFLEX can also be deployed to different areas of your warehouse to align with layout changes.
What are the disadvantages of BFLEX?
1. Bolt together design
Unlike the PED 150 type barrier – the BFLEX is designed to be bolted together and therefore may not be as fast to install as a pedestrian barrier
2. Protection barrier not a handrail
BFLEX has been designed as a protection barrier like an Armco type barrier and therefore not designed as a pedestrian handrail and is not available with matching pedestrian gates.
3. Not a motorway barrier
Flexible barriers are designed to absorb the impact of impacts and crashes of FLTs and MHEs, this means a 5 ton FLT travelling at 10Km/h can be stopped by a flexible barrier causing no minimal-to-no damage to the truck, the floor or the barrier. An Armco type barrier will be destroyed by a similar impact with damage to the ground and the truck.

Is BFLEX the right barrier for you?
Now that you have a better idea of BFLEX barrier, it's time to look at your requirements. Will BFLEX fit the bill? Finding the right barrier is rarely simple.
Here at Clarity we've been helping customers with their pedestrian safety requirements for over a decade, we know that your pedestrian safety is impossible without a strong and durable barrier.
If you need a barrier which has an ultra slim profile, or a wider catchment area then BFLEX is likely a perfect fit for you.
But if you need a pedestrian segregation barrier which is also a handrail, or you want integrated gates in the barrier – you'll need to look at alternative barriers.
